Basic Tiberframe

This is an early rendition of the frame I want to use for our monitor barn. I'm new to Google Sketchup, so it takes me quite a while to make a rendition. I still have a lot to learn. This should give you some idea about what we are thinking.

  1. Hi David - I've added a link to your blog on our straw bale project page. Hopefully it will help drive at least some traffic to your blog.

This looks like a great project. My brother who is a real traditionalist, built a 32 X 32 timbre frame barn and did it all, and I mean all by hand. He cut the trees and had them milled, restored a set of antique chisels and other necessary hand tools, used a draw knife to make hand made shingles for the roof, whittled all his own oak pegs, had a black smith friend, make the few nails he used. Of course it all was assembled by a barn raising that coincided with his annual micro-brew, Oktoberfest attended by several hundred people every year...and it actually went together straight and true after all that!

Good luck and I look forward to watching your project unfold!

  2. Appreciate the help. Your brother gives me some ideas for how to accomplish the raising! I may need to contract out the brew, however.
